ORCA: The Immersive Abyss

The Project Narrative

“ORCA: The Immersive Abyss” is a spatial exploration that translates the vertical journey of the ocean into a horizontal interior experience. The design moves away from traditional, static museum displays and instead places the visitor inside a “living” narrative.

1. The Concept: “From Shore to the Abyss”

The project is structured around the transition of light and life. Visitors begin in the Epipelagic zone (Shore/Archipelago), characterized by bright, naturalistic greens and tropical forms, and descend deeper into the Bathypelagic zone (The Abyss), where the architecture becomes darker, more bioluminescent, and structurally “heavier.”

2. Solving the Problem: Fluidity vs. Fatigue

The core design challenge was “Museum Fatigue” caused by irregular zoning.

  • The Solution: I utilized radial and linear layout combinations to create a natural “current.”

  • The Result: By using curved paths and biomorphic forms, the architecture guides the visitor’s movement instinctively, ensuring they remain engaged without the mental exhaustion of navigating a “messed up” floor plan.

3. Design Language & Biomimicry

The aesthetic is driven by Biomimicry. Every surface is designed to evoke the feeling of being underwater:

  • Ceilings: Feature water-ripple panels and fiber-optic effects to mimic surface light and deep-sea bioluminescence.

  • Forms: The use of “Engine Room” and “VR Subdive” zones integrates high-tech interactivity with organic, curved architecture, blurring the line between a scientific facility and a natural wonder.
