The Perfect Imperfection: Mastering Mid-century Pop & Contrast

MIDCENT Apartment is a 1500sqft experimental residential study designed to challenge the sterile nature of modern minimalism. By embracing a philosophy of “messy but neat,” the project optimizes a compact footprint through strategic asymmetrical zoning and bold visual storytelling.

Design Strategies & Spatial Problem Solving

  • Curing Spatial Inefficiency: The layout addresses “wasted space” and “uncontrolled clutter” by implementing a multifunctional, asymmetrical floor plan that maximizes every square meter.

  • The Asymmetrical Workspace: A custom-designed desk extends outward to provide a larger surface area without disrupting the primary circulation path between the living area and the bedroom.

  • Warmth through Contrast: The palette utilizes a base of warm wood grains and neutral tones, punctuated by “vivid pops” of orange, teal, and deep red to create a sense of controlled chaos.

  • Zoning via Texture: Herringbone timber flooring provides a classic foundation, while vertical fluted panels and geometric wall art serve as focal points that define different functional zones.

Project Philosophy

“In this project, perfection is found in the balance of bold contrasts and organic forms. It is a space designed for a dynamic lifestyle—where a vibrant color palette and smart storage solutions transform a compact apartment into an expressive, neat, and highly livable sanctuary.”
